    Awatere Hut

    Gidday all,

Looking to get out for a hunt in the Ruas in next few weeks, and had my eye on Awatere Hut area for a day mission. Have finally been given a pass out by the mrs since the birth of our 2nd, and it feels like Im starting from scratch!

Never been to Awatere, so was wondering if its best to go right to the river and hunt the flats and clearings around there, or can you cut back in to that big basin on your left on the way in? (bout 2 thirds of way toward Awatere Hut).

If anyone has any tips or info on the area, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

Hey mate, the creeks climbing up to your right on the way downstream are often successful at this time of year.
There was animals in the sun directly opposite the hut 3 weeks back on the big face.
    Plenty about.
    Hope that's useful cheers.

Take some rat traps or bate mate was a few around last time i was in there.

Long walk up stream to the headwaters under longview was good few deer around there.

I went up the back of the hut and climbed for the tussock and ran into heaps of sign. Didnt make tussock nor see any deer tho

Solid tips boys. Cheers. Yeah was thinking of heading upstream, hopefully all that snow has pushed them down a bit. Thats the plan anyway....

Guarantee you they have come down. I grew up on a farm that backed on to mill/kashmire road and in winter they were always coming down into the back blocks
