Thread: Baiting Wild Pigs

Hi,

Another newbie question please;

Got a couple of dogs (blue heelers), but have zero experience pig hunting with dogs; I'm not sure I could keep up with buggers in the bush (heard some sketchy reports about GPS collar range/reception) and I certainly don't want to see them hurt (or perish the though, have to dispatch them in the event they get gored), so I was thinking about going down the the bait and wait road instead.

Found a tonne of Yankee videos on YouTube (crikey, there's one where a hunter headshots 3 pigs with 1 round using bait - grain?) and it seems to be the preferred method of pig hunting over there. Did a bit more scratching around and it seems like the best bait is fermented maize (corn)?

I'd been very keen to hear from any of you folks that have hunted pigs using this method, and what your most effective bait brew is please.

I guess the best approach is to find a spot with plenty of pig sign, lay some bait out and scope a good overlook position, and return at a later time to lay more bait and hole up and wait for them to return?

TIA for any advice or tips you're willing to share.
