Best hunting blocks in the Auckland area?

Hi, I'm new to the hunting scene and I'm mainly wondering if I should bother with an open area permit or stick to any particular restricted areas. I was also wondering what the most populated hunting areas were as far as sheep, pigs, deer, anything

Also It would be nice to know which if any areas are good for crossbows as well

    Thanks!!!

    No hunting in Akld.
    Not on public land anyway
Be prepared to drive an hour, or more.
    Kaimai's Coro Ranges, Hunua.
    No idea on crossbows, sorry.

He nui to ngaromanga, he iti to putanga.

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !

You're out of luck to use a crossbow on public land I'm pretty sure. No rifle or compound bow?

Yea I have a rifle just thought it would be a fun gimmick

I was going to give dome forest a shot, but apparently the DOC are really reluctant to hand out permits....

yes to fun gimmicky hunters. Learn how to hunt, get a few animals under your belt, show some consideration and maturaty as to what you want to achieve and then I bet you will leave the gimmicks behind. If not you wont becoming with me.

They changed the hunting permits a year or two back to allow them.

There is a waiting list for North Auckland DOC hunting areas (Dome Valley, etc). http://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-rec...kland-hunting/

The following DOC brochure has the conditions required for using bows. http://www.doc.govt.nz/Documents/par...s-brochure.pdf
