Best size for a pig trap

Asking on behalf of a mate

He is looking at buying a cage to convert to a pig trap, end product would be 1700 long, 800w, 800h, with the door on the 800x800 face.

Opinions on whether this is big enough, much appreciated.

no hardly big enough to swing a cat 3 m x 2m I would have thought minimum pigs would be reluctant to enter a very small trap - needs to be well anchored or floored so pigs cant get their nose under sides and escape big boars are bloody strong

At least 4 metres square, like 4 x 14' gates in a square and 2 or 3 on top to stop them climbing out. Dont expect instant results, it takes a while for them to get comfortable with it. Boiled barley works a treat.

With a 1700 x 800 trap, you will probably only catch one at a time. With a decent size one and a one way door, you have the chance to catch a whole lot more than just one.

Don't make traps too small . Find the heart shape works well , no mesh on floor. After watching camera's on various traps we tried, ditched small cages and settled on using rolls of xfence security mesh. Everything can be carried on quadbike to site.
