I hear that they are good tents and agree with you that the two man provides that little bit of extra room.
Your right and the hubba hubba is mint... Just a prick to erect in the windy pissun down rain on ur own.... Go on try it!!!!!! I dare you
My 2cents
Was in the same situation 6 months ago and purhased a macpac minaret.
Great tent for 1, small for 2, has an angled floor plan meaning one person needs to be short to fit.
Very wateproof floor and I thnk a bt more durable than the hubba. Easy to pitch, even with 1 person, goes up quick Can be pitched with fly in place so great if it is raining or you can even just leave the inner at home and pitch the outer to save weight.
Does have a small vestibule, you can cook in it but not much room for storing gear.
Cheers
Dino
You should put it up before the rain starts then BB. I have at least a half a dozen tents/shelters from a hootchie, tthrough Hennessy hammock, to various two man and four man tents. The best one is the one that doesn't leak that you are in when it is pissing down with rain.
I bought a MSR hoop as its a little longer than the Hubba Hubba. Great tent. Nice and light. Good quality. Haven't been wet in it yet

Don't no how good the msr tent is , but would have to be good to match or better the minaret
Mates of mine lived in a MSR for two winters, one while paddling through Fiordland, the other while paddling around the South Island. Still going strong, which speaks volumes I think. Reason I got a Hoop was because it was a tad longer
Thanks for your replies , did a lot of searching / reviews on internet and have bought a " Hilleberg Tent " made in Sweden, Akto is the model . Hope it is here by Labour w/e
I will put forward my view towards the tent issue as I went through this about 6 months ago, most of my hunting is in Fiordland where I have used a number of different brands, as I am like most of us getting older and looking at better lite weight gear, I have settled with Exped Venus II for these reasons, better water rating 10,000 mm floor compared to the MSR, comes complete with everything,European design with alot of thought put into it.Should handle what NZ conditions throw our way, good under cover area for cooking, lite weight pegs, repair kit, better overall waterproof rating, can be put up fly only which is super lite.
Check out Bivouac website it is worth checking out, good for a 2 or even 3 at a squeeze but great for 1 person as the all up weight is 2.4 kg.
Hope this helps
Terra Nova are a herd tent to go past. This is the Solar Competition.

I have tried a few tents over the years - mainly macpac. Got an MSR tent a few years back, and far and away the best tent used to date. very well thought out and constructed. Gives me great confidence when the weather turns to shite.
I have got a luxe lightwave. Weighs 1200gm. Was fairly cheap too about 200 i think. Havn't had any problems in the rain yet, plenty of room for me plus gear. Elite outdoors are the NZ suppliers if they have them in stock. Plenty of good reviews on the net
I suggest also looking into Tarptents. I got the SS2 and am very impressed. 1.2kg's and enough room for two long-wide exped mats.
Sly - what model MSR did you get?
Marlin 45-70 - I had a look for "elite outdoors" online and couldn't see much - have you got any more details?
Thanks
