    Have you hunted there before?

Are you ok to Hunt alone?

Do you fart heaps, snore loudly and stay up late at night yapping incessantly about nothing at all?

    Do you have a dog?

    Can you cook?

I got a ballot this year .... so did my wife

Might have a spare seat or two, depending on the answers to the above questions

Mid November and Late January early February for us this year but can only manage Friday to Sunday in November..

Missed out altogether last year but did manage to squeeze in with a mate, Had three hinds walk out onto the track in front of me on the trip back to the hut one night. Had my rifle strapped down on the Quads carrier so just had to watch as they slowly walked up the track 30-40m and head back into the bush again. Was blowing it's tits off most of the time too.

    Cheers
    Pete

I've missed out two years in a row now, it used to be pretty easy to get in there but some tool in DOC sent the 1000+ member mountain bike club an email encouraging them to apply for the ballots and go mountain biking...

Oh that would be awesome fun for them.

They could ride their little bikes all the way down to Shutes ..................... and bloody well stay there!

On a serious note it shouldn't make much difference to the hunters though.

Each week of the ballot period Doc ballot two four man hunting parties and one four man tramping party.

There's always plenty of room for all.

    Cheers

    Never hunted there before
Yip can hunt Alone - Have GPS + Compass & will travel
Fart heaps after gabbage and bacon washed down with Tui - Snoring only if the level of Tui exceeds the food intake
Yapping - I like a Yarn but also like my sleep - so normal bloke id say
No dog yet sorry - Im working on this
Cook yip - Most trips I get the job of sorting the food for the boys

Have got a leave pass to fill weekend of 16th Nov - ?

Yes theres plenty of room but the problem is the mountain bikers are applying for the hunting ballots as well which means the hunters are missing out. Probably good if you do get a ballot as there is less hunting pressure on the animals!

In my experiences with the hbmtb club their recreation is far more important than anyone else's and they throw around their membership numbers to ensure they get what they want at others expense. A couple of years ago there was someone in DOC trying to set up MTB only tracks right through Big Hill and beyond along the Ruahines, don't know where that got to but it might not be a bad thing in terms of opening up access anyway.

I heard what your saying Brakelie.

Haven't seen any Mountain Bikes or tracks in there yet so they can't have too much clout.

I got one 27th Dec. It is a good plan to book No mans hut as it gives some extra area to hunt the 2 private blocks. I had early April last year but had to give it away as the man with the 4 W D pulled out at the last minute. I do have a 4 W D but it is our only vehicle and cannot leave the wife and kids without transport. So this year they are all coming as well. Like it or not.

    Pome

You wont need 4wd to get to Ruahine hut, however you may need it to get to No Mans and will definitely need it to reach the White Hut as the road is very rutted just past No Mans and 300m from White Hut it gets very boggy. Had to use the winch here a couple of years ago.

Payment for No Mans Hut only allows you the right to hunt the No Mans Block only.

    Cheers
    Pete
