    Bit of Wairarapa history......

    Goes under the hammer in the Colonial Auction @ Dunbars this week....
    The plaque reads "Shot by Alex Sutherland Hinakura 1835"
    Quite impressive size...

    I'm guessing a connection to Sutherland's hut..... ???

    hinakura is an area of farmland in the wairarapa aswell, shot my first deer there.

    I think it must be 1935. 1835 is a wee bit earlier for the introduction of deer in NZ.

    There's a very similar Hinakura head in the Wairarapa NZDA club rooms. Some great heads have come from the area. Still do.

    I went and had a look at it, but didn't see it sell.

    It was a Wapiti. Sutherland must have come from Hinakura, not shot it at Hinakura.
