Goes under the hammer in the Colonial Auction @ Dunbars this week....
The plaque reads "Shot by Alex Sutherland Hinakura 1835"
Quite impressive size...
I'm guessing a connection to Sutherland's hut..... ???
Sorry about the rubbish phone photo

hinakura is an area of farmland in the wairarapa aswell, shot my first deer there.
1835? That would have been a muzzle loader?
Boom, cough,cough,cough
I think it must be 1935. 1835 is a wee bit earlier for the introduction of deer in NZ.
Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.
There's a very similar Hinakura head in the Wairarapa NZDA club rooms. Some great heads have come from the area. Still do.
Any chance you can find out what it sells for ?
I went and had a look at it, but didn't see it sell.
It was a Wapiti. Sutherland must have come from Hinakura, not shot it at Hinakura.
