Son and I went on a Goat cull over the weekend. Once we were over that I pulled out the Lyman Great Plains Rifle and managed to bag 2 Pigs and a Six pointer red. Was using homemade powder and round balls. One of the pigs my son ranged at 110 meters so was pretty happy with that shot. These 2 were about 60 meters at a guess.

That's pretty cool. One day I would like to get a BP rifle. They look fun and add another challenge to hunting.

Yep it`s pretty much my favourite way of hunting these days, you know you've got one shot only, open sights and limited range. The shooting something you have made the Powder, balls and patches for adds something as well.

Great work, have you dabbled in flintlocks?

It too is my favourite method of hunting these days.

Hunt safe, look after the bush & plug more pests. The greatest invention in the history of man is beer.

Yep have a couple of those, Pedersoli Kentucky with locks in both Flint and percussion as well as T/C Hawken. Both are 50cal 1-48 twist. I do like the T/C Hawken rifles either flint or percussion.

I’ve not handled a TC hawken but I know they’re held in high regard from the guys I chat with in the states. I have a Pedersoli Missouri River in 50, but don’t use it much anymore. Mostly a centre mark fusil de chasse flint in 20g/62 and Green River leman trade flint in 54.

I’m currently having a custom Manton styled 58 flintlock built by a gunsmith here, keen for that.

Do you get much of a blood trail with the PRB? I’ve noticed it can be really good or non existent.

I’d love to learn how you go about making BP someday, I need to drive 4 1/2 hrs to get my Swiss at this point in time.

Size: 94.6 KB Took the GPR to the range and checked it at 50yds. 3 shot group with 2 through the middle. Homemade screened powder, home cast round ball, ticking patch and toy cap gun caps. The patches blow on this rifle but I care more about where the balls land. Didn`t think too shabby but the stringing out to right could be of concern
