Be careful about trampers and the forest boundary because Dave Coe takes a hard line on poaching and Pete Gimblett is up there in a flash. Why not go down to the river and go up the Tutaekuri for about an hour and start to hunt the benches.Good pockets of animals.

Top quality advise right there, some good Sika stags there too, especially up on the right in that basin.

Dave Coe is the forestry manager at Kaweka. He was a very close mate of Len Snee. Pete Gimblett is taking up the huge mantle that Len created.Dave hates poachers but more so people who thieve in the forest especially from logging crews or damage forestry gear.

Years ago when the Lawrence Rd was much more primitive a local hunter was coming up the Lawrence Rd after a hunt. On dark a bloke jumps out of the scrub decked in hunting rear. The stranger burbles on about chasing some big animals. The local asks what he is hunting...moose and wapiti the stranger replies. The local is impressed. A short time later a phone call is made to you know who.Best you go for a walk because I think you have a dope grower in the forest.Len had a lot of contacts but stupidity got his biggest tallies.
