Thread: Bowhunter looking for DIY trip advise

Hey folks, looking at coming over to NZ in October bow hunting. Any advice on where to head for a public land DIY hunt, not fussed on trophy's, just looking at getting on to some deer, pigs or goats etc. Would bring backpack camping set up with me, rent a cheap car and then hopefully make use of staying in one of your DOC huts or fly camp. North or South Island? or any other pointers would be highly appreciated. Not looking for any of your secret spots but just a recommended area to head to for around 5 days. Cheers in advance

Clement mills road on the north island if you want to chase sika deers. You have 24 ish km of road in the middle of the bush and a few camp grounds along the way. Reasonably easy access, it’s just that trying to nail one of them is the hard bit.
Where ever you are going to go in NZ, Make sure you have a good gps with a topo map from nz , and don’t rely just on your cell phone.
