Finally after breaking in the C/W barrel on the new Hardy custom 6.5 06, twas time for the real thing. So I worked up some loads and took the rifle and the grand boy (aka "mate") for a walk last night
Left the hut around 7 ish and drove 5 mins up on to the creek flats. Hadn't long been walking when I spotted a couple of hinds at 340yds accross the gully. Was thinking seriously about the option when I was advised that they probably got a fawn stashed somewhere so best we be leaving them.
So we carried on a bit when a few goats took off from in front of us but we sort-of have a rule that goat shooting is best kept for walkin back to the truck, not away from it. Anyway, bit further and 2 small pigs burst out from about 20 feet in front of us causing my mate to nearly shit himself. I noticed he picked up a rock and carried that for about 5 minutes before deciding it wasnt worth the hassle, even though he had his 222 over his shoulder anyway.
Bit further, and out on a sheep camp was a black sow. Got him into position, told him to remember to squeeze the trigger, and the rest is history
The picture says the rest
