    Bucket list trip help....

    Hi lads ,

Need some advice and contact details...

So I organised a trip last year to Fiordland and it was fantasic we went on a boat called the Cindy Hardy, on the suggestion on a forum memeber and it was a fatastic trip.

A few forum members came and chatting last night to phillipo its time we did another one.

So Id like to organise another trip well not really but no one else is silly enough to volunteer)

I'mthinking of either the chatams or stewart island. Ideally the trip would be for up to 10 mates and has a bit of fishing , diving and hunting.

Im open to suggestions and advice of people that have done a trip we are flexible, just thought this would save me time trawling the net and get some fedback from people that have done a similar trip.

I guess we would be looking for at least a 5 day trip.

Ideally we would like to go between November 2018 and March 2019, so we are flexible with dates.

So i guess im looking for suggestions of places you have been , the pros and cons of it and contact details ie accomodation or details of fishing, diving charters etc.

Once I have sorted out a destination, and all costings, Ill put another post up incase any forum members want to tag along.

Feel free to pm if you have any contact details advice so it doesnt get lost in 20 pages of this thread...

    Regards
    Mohawk.

For reasonable cost and an all round experience I'd head to the Stewart Island first, especially if you haven't been, then maybe the Chathams later ... although I haven't been to the Chatham's. Will one day, have family there.

If you're wanting a boys trip, aim for the warmer months, keeping in mind it is Stewart Island and winter can arrive mid summer haha. However if you got a summer like we did this year it'd be amazing.

I'd look at getting one of the blocks down the east coast for ease of variety of activities, fishing/diving/hunting/explring etc. Blocks being ones located in Lords, Tikotatahi, Port Adventure or even in Patersons Inlet itself. Pick a block with a hut obviously. The ones with hunters huts are best, as then you know you're not going to be sharing it with trampers. Take a small boat or two and fish and dive till your stomachs can't take anymore!

With a crew of guys that large, breaking the costs up among you means its actually not a really expensive week long holiday either budget ~$1000-2000.

We go over a bit, but fly down and it costs us less than $500 each for the week, food, flights and hut fees. Mates are down there now, but I had to pull pin due to work commitments and over committing to several tahr hunts in June.

There's plenty of options regarding chartering a boat down that way (the East Coast), several operators will do a drop you off and pick you up service. Depending on services required costs will vary. Boat and engine hire, dates, number of guys etc.
I'm drawn to the mountains and the bush, it's where life is clear, where the world makes the most sense.

fly into masons bay direct from invercargill, cavalier or martins creek are the better ones as the huts are near the beach. can book the block for 10days. fly in with all the bells and whistles and then fly out with all the venison. not much fishing to be done from the hut but if you walk down to the gutter at the south end there are a few spots. other options for the island include getting a boat from bluff direct to one of the blocks on the eastern side of the island (no red deer on the eastern side) or come over on the real journeys ferry to halfmoon bay, night at the pub (can take you all out on an evening wander on a private block if i'm around) then get a water taxi to a block up pattersons inlet. advantage of this is its a bit more sheltered and great fishing/diving
