Been having a bit of bad luck recently and today it continued.

Any thoughts on the a mount of deflection from a hit like this? Approx 1" thick beech, 150gr eld-x at 30m. No blood, no thwack and no deer, a clean pass through would have put it just infront of the front shoulder quartering on. Shit shooting nonetheless
If animal was very close to branch it probably wore shrapnel... It's always been said heavy n slow preforms better in that scenario but testing has shown it's always a gamble. PERSONALLY I use big heavy blunt round nose for bush hunting...so far no issues if put in right place and yes I have shot through shrubbery...with definite positive id and just scrub covering vitals.
That's substantial. I would reckon that if an animal was more than a couple of meters away from the sapling it would be a miss.
Thanks for the replys, hoping it was a clean miss. The sapling would have been no more than a couple of meters infront of the animal, should have been well clear of point of aim, mainly over the neck.
try not to hit the woody bits. it happens hitting supple jack is enough to flick a projectile some where else.
As I mentioned in another thread - I shot a red spikey where the bullet passed through a beech tree sapling that was as round as a beer bottle, the bullet hit it dead centre and went right through the deer and stopped under the skin on the far side.
