And then back a bit there was the ‘scout rifle’;)
Yea werent they a short rifle large mag capacity mil rifle desighned by some cournel or something
@Kelton good to hear you're enjoying the 150gr lrab. I gave the 150gr ELDX a crack today. 7 Shot a ladder over 3gr powder at 0.5gr increments to get approx velocities and the whole ladder grouped under an inch with good velocity. I suspect when I choose a single powder charge the group should be at least as small as the 7 shot ladder. The LRAB is next on my list to try - might flick you a PM to see how you're going with it.
NZ guns did an article on converting a sako into a Scout Rifle years ago. The main idea of the scout rifle is to be the most versatile rifle possible.
Some of the qualifications being Weight less than 3kg, Length less than 1 meter. Accuracy of more than 2moa, able to kill an animal of up to 1000kg at range which the user can shoot accurately. I think the large mag thing only started with the Ruger Gunsite Scouts.
Jeff Cooper was the man who got the concept going.
Pretty sure a certain tinkerer of things gun and black powder ,who lives a couple of hours north of me will have something's older than any Winchester lever that would fit criteria if you accept open sights...
yes bush pigs needs to disappear stupid term - much earlier rifles got the description stalking rifles or mountain rifles meaning a rifle that was lighter designed to carry all day - was carbine not for a saddle rifle carried by cavalry short and handy
+1
Suppressors arent common in the us
No wonder they’re not common when you realise the rigmarole to legally own one.
Yea same as aussie. Youd think it would fall under some kind of h&s bs
Also run an old school Rossi lever action .44 mag with red dot for real tight bush.(kaimais, lake tarawera)
I got bergara b14 extreme, short, light and accurate with Leupold vx3, described as mountain rifle by manufacturer. Hardly notice it being super light, not much more than 3kg can carry it for days. No suppressor to keep it under 100cm, when it's on ya shoulder barrel only a few centimeters above, doesn't get hooked up. Super light trigger 2pds factory can be adjusted less. being light and short she bucks good but manage to get quick followups when required. I love it and highly recommend.
Oh yea that's right. Wonder have they done a study to see how many crims use suppressors
Me too mate,me too.
Suppressors have actually become easier to obtain in the USA recently but it does come at a cost and regulation , it is a viable option now in many or most states .
What they do seem to do differently is that " over barrel " suppressors don't seem to be the norm .
So barrel length is a hot topic over there when you consider the overall length of a Rifle with a forward mounted Suppressor can get a bit unwieldy
A 20 inch barrel with a 9 inch suppressor hanging off the front is a very long Rifle :D
Depends how much you want to spend, I use a ruger ranch in 7.62x39 for the bush, 16in barrel dpt suppressor and a cheap 3-9x40 scope. Probs cost me 1600 bucks all up, ammo is plentiful and cheap and gets the job done out to 150 or so metres
