    Central Otago hunting

    Hi,
Anyone have any advice on where to go hunting, rabbits, hare, deer, around Clyde/Alexandra/Bendigo ? Also, any rifle range in that area?
    Thanks in advance
    Andrew

Maybe Rock and Pillar range at least I have heard of that area, don't know anywhere else though.

There are DOC hunting blocks in the area and permits can be obtained online. Private land is not normally available to casual shooters. There are ranges in the area but are all confined to club members. Hunting in the area over Christmas must be done with extreme care as there are many non-shooting users of the DOC blocks (4wd trippers, gold history buffs, trampers, horse trekkers, etc. who don't need permits to be there). Private land would be your safest option but it is probably too late to organise as personal visits are a must so the land owners can get a feel for your attitude and aptitude.

Your literally surrounded by doc area to hunt. Just look up any doc area and go have a look 90 percent will have deer some pigs and some a bit of everything. Kopawai and oteake and nevis are all pretty handy to you. Download the Nztopo 50 and it has a setting that shows all the doc areas in nz pick a gully and hit it.

The further you go inland the better,3hr drive better than 30 minut drive. If you can go mid week even better.Find a place where you gota walk for a hour, less people again.Near bush and stream=green grass=deer.Last hr of day light and 1st hr sunrise is good with the breeze blowing in your face, not the deers faces.Nice green clearings amongst bush is good. You got doc land for miles down there.
