    D O C drop goes wrong!

Just heard a 1080 drop killed about 8 cows on farm by Tekuiti, Marpara reserve. Dear say a bit of rear end juggling going on. The cows "broke" through a fence to get the stuff, Yer!!. They have been dropping this stuff for years and it`s still not doing any good, the pests, they are still out there. This may hot thing`s up or something else killed them ???, bet they will come up with the answer.

Apparently there are about 5 different stories doing the rounds, ranging from poison pellets dropped on the farmland, to the cattle breaking into the reserve, to the cows being in a DOC approved location on the farm. I'm not holding my breath that we will eventually hear which version is true, if any.

    Mapara Reserve
That was the bush I grew up in
Aratora Valley as we called it - also known as Mapara South Road

I (at age 12) was the 1st person in NZ to POSSITIVLEY identify the Blue Whattled Crow - aka - Kokako
I gave a dead specimen to neighbour who had brother as Taxidermist and it ended up in AKL museum and then all the tree huggers arrived
Got dragged out of school and asked to guide them to spot etc etc
Non were seen again - but 5-6 years later when I back doing coons as a school leaver - I saw and heard most mornings - but never told them
Them later - someone found and turned it into a Reserve

    Bloody circus !!
We farmed directly opposite it - a good producing farm that got bought up in mid 80 recession and plated in fucking Penis Radiata

Nah the cows were bludgeoned to death by angry tree huggers who saw them making for their precious blue meanies.

not according to their website (not the main chunk of forest anyway), mapara reserve is on the right after you turn off heading towards waimiha.
think they are doing the bit up where the 4wd club goes too (i think)

There are a lot of goats around that reserve so ??? , there should be a few in there . And knowing the farmer whoes cows where poisoned ? , it doesn't ring true that he would of made any mistakes .

I hope the true story gets out eventually. There's too many half truths surrounding the 1080 argument already, this kind of thing can easily get out of hand.

    As a beef farmer and a tree grower my attitude towards this is;
    1. If Doc was to blame, fix you bloody stuff up!
    2. If the farmer was to blame, keep your bloody cows out of DOC land!
    3. If someone else is to blame (ie deliberate poisoning for political impact), bugger off! These people should be found and made an example of publicly.

As I said, a pretty polarising issue.

My understanding of the story is it is a bit of both. The bait was over spread into a buffer zone, and the cows go into it. The cows weren't meant to be in the buffer zone but neither was the bait

Ive sort of seen that. An example being blue mountain ducks on the west coast. Reckoned there were none in a certain valley. Mate and I saw couple of pairs so in a way heaps more than none.
Never told Doc and I doubt they would've done much over those birds. Just not the numbers of staff floating around to check on that stuff.
