Well I'm going to go slightly against most of you here. I've changed my mind. I think a big poison drop is the right thing to rid the place of these parasitic rats, mice and possums. They just need to target the trouble spots a bit better.
I think this is the place for the first drop.

They shouldn't complain because they keep telling us it is safe. ;)
Until the "pests" are re classified and GAC is supported by DOC - which currently both orgs have conflicting mandate were ona. Road to nowhere. Govt have given us the engine we wanted but wont release the fuel to fire it up. From a govt point of view in my mind its served it purpose to pacify us in the medium term while they continue battle for the birds. Bit of salami slicing in my honest opinion
The GAC members are also far to passive in my opinion - wheres the propaganda? Media? Updates?
Yeah they're gonna do the Orongorongo valley in the Rimutaka's this September as well. This area has never been poisoned due to Landcare doing "research" for the last 50 odd years but are pulling out. Must be useless buggers if they've got nothing to show for that time huh? Feel sorry for the 55 odd Kiwi's in the Turere catchment area that are bound to take a hammering. May look at doing pre and post drop video footage to gauge the effect of the drop and sending a copy to DOC and the Minister for the Environment "Maggie the Terrible".
Maggie is a fucking JOKE!
the swifter that odd pair of tasteless narrow minded clown shoes leave pollitics the better! For the life of me i can see how dr smith lasted this long........
Have mercy!
Any time.
How about an open season on Helicopters dropping this shit. A 6.5mm bullet through the engine should do the trick
I don't know what Labours policy on 1080 is. But if its any better than National and that arrogant cunt Nick Smith then It might cause me to rethink who I vote for at the next election.
What I can't understand (and maybe I'm stupid), but where are Maori in all of this..the so called custodians of the forest. Don't see them protesting too much about 1080.
(Must be too busy out raping our coastlines of Paua and crayfish and getting a slap on the hand by means of a $250.00 fine).
On a lighter side and dripping with irony, I had a look at your profile 6.5mm-mag and had to smile at this: "6.5mm-mag has not made any friends yet" :)
As much as I abhor the use of 1080 in our country and as much as I am a passionate opponent, your advocating for the gross misuse of firearms in a manner that could result in the tragic loss of human life is not something that I would expect from a responsible firearms license holder.
Apologies guys for my previous posts. I just got a bit wound up over the 1080 thing and realized what I said was totally inappropriate. Especially what I said about a 6.5 mm bullet and helicopter.
As the local NZDA in the area, we successfully campaigned for deer repellent and will be looking to do that every time they drop it. Our hunting club is setting up a separate group to help work towards solutions to preserve the herd so it will be there for future generations to hunt, website still under construction but check out wakatipuwhitetail.co.nz as there will no doubt be more 1080 planned in the future again.
