    December/Jan tahr hunting

Hey guys I have had a few tahr trips fall apart so having a think about a long weekend jaunt to the south in search of one over summer. Not looking for a spot x or a haven for massive bulls just looking for my first tahr(will take a bull if I get the chance). Have been doing a bit of research but thought I would ask on here as there is a wealth of knowledge to be had here. Thought about flying into chch and going east coast while they are a little lower down before going after them for a mid winter trip in the rut.
    Cheers

Assuming you’re from the north Island. A capable 4x4 would be a major advantage to you if you do have one, and consider driving down instead of flying. Still a few good options without tho. Feel free to PM me closer to the time. I may have a weekend spare or at least give you a couple of pointers on areas

Don't have time to drive down otherwise would have brought down my 4wd. Coming from Auckland is a bloody nightmare

I assumed I would have to hire a little car to meet up with someone or drive to a road end. Will see if I can score one locally

You can go up the sections of the Te Aro Trail from Rangitata Gorge = bush stream/crooked spur hut.
    No 4WD needed.

Haha mate I would love if I could even find a legal paua up these ways! Have to go to the back or great barrier and I cannot see that happening anytime soon

Hey team so plans changed again. Flying to Canterbury end of thr month and have 4 days for hunting. Will be looking for a red stag(no.1 on hit list),chamois and tahr. Thinking about heading in from roundhill ski field to bush stream. Anyone able to have a chat with me about this or better suggestions? Ahuriri has also been thrown around as have a 4wd. Have decent gear and confident/capable shooting a reasonable distance. What blows me away is the size of your bloody hills!

Nope, we don't have hills down here in the south....... just massive big mountains....
