They definitely get used to the usual sounds and goings on....its anything out of the ordinary that will put them on high aleart/spook them.....like driving up then turning the engine off.
Not deer but pigs yarn...when I was a young fella school holidays were mostly spent sitting in the cab of a bulldozer with Dad, He had been pushing in this road and superskid for a few days and this mob of pigs had been coming out in the evenings and rooting around in the workings but as soon as it was shut down they were gone......I talked Dad into going home to get a rifle one evening.....left Dozer parked doing about 1000rpm while we went home to get a rifle (about 45min drive each way) we got back about 20min before dark and come back to them rooting right next to the 155 still running.....they must have thought it was a big distant cousin
either that or they could still smell you and thought there was another pig around
