hey fulla id shoot it with the 303 first!,then you will start to get an idea on what cal you might like.were do you hunt?
your gonna get bombarded with cal options but plenty of guys on here have bowld there first with a 303 and some still do.
Good luck.
Well have no where yet to go
Pigs and stuff have a place in coromandel
There are plenty of Doc reserves near you if your in the bop? or Waikato? the boys up there are always scaring them offwhat district are you in? have you thought of Deer stalkers?
Nothing wrong with a 303. Was a true deer slayer in it's time.
However if money is not an issue then by all means upgrade to a new rifle.
I will not get into the "what rifle/what caliber is best" argument except to say choose what feel good for you. Try different rifles to see what fits you and choose a caliber that you have no regrets about everytime you pull the trigger. Everytime I shoot my Sako 75 in 308 I wish I had got it in 6.5x55. Buy once, cry once.
Most of all, welcome to hunting and the forum
Asking questions like this will start a shit storm and cause an avalanche of advice. Can you get the Friday off after Waitangi Day? We could go down for a hunt on Waitangi Day and come back on the Sunday.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!

Yea was a member of the deer stalkers association when i was a member at waiuku pistol club
but never got out with them
and im in manukau i dont think the coppers would like me leeting a 303 of around there haha
Borrow one of Rushy's, he owes you for the haircut.
Can we get a popcorn smiley for threads like this?
Any legal calibre will do the job well. I like bigger, not to excuse poor shooting but because I like hard hitting out to long range ballistics but worry more on shot placement than calibre and you'll kill a lot more animals cleanly.
Any caliber is legal here BH.
Id recommend any common cal based on the 308 or 3006 cases.
With a bias towards 308,7mm08
"Hunting and fishing" fucking over licenced firearms owners since ages ago.
308Win One chambering to rule them all.
My son shot his first deer with his late grandfathers .303. Best thing that ever happened. I think I wet myself with excitement!!
