Hi,
I've got Dillon Block next mth, not been in there before - just wanted to ask anyone with knowledge on the block which way in would be best, walk-in via the engineers bridge just passed the camp site or walk down the right side of the Clarence and cross the river somewhere safe or is that even possible?

Haven't been to that block but imagine the Clarence will be running pretty low in Feb, take a spare pair of shoes and a few extra rubbish bags for gear in your pack....

If river is down as it should be at that time of year walk down the right side to about the Hossack boundary and cross the river. In years gon by, 80-90's, have seen vehicles driven across ok when on goose shoots. If river is high, not much choice but walk down north side.
Quite a walk in from the Clarence road. I have Makuratawai end March.
About 6km to Hossack boundary, 11km all up to mouth of Dillon. Hardly a marathon. Used to walk from Clarence up Dillon to Bullock gulley plus side creeks in a day during goose shoots.About 12kms each way from memory.
I walked to the head of the Dillon, starting from the engineers bridge and followed the river down to the block. Pretty easy walk just take some time to pick the best route to stay out of the mud and banks. FWIW i was in there for the roar a few years ago and didnt see one deer! Was after the 1080 drop.Quote:
