Those huts are a bastion in the bush, a safe place for all, the difference between life and death.

And should always be treated with respect.

There's a new generation out there now and they don't give a flying fuck about respect. Just themselves in the here and now. Oxygen wasting twats.

About 11 years ago when I did a bit of work for doc we had to go up lake monowai and fix up the hut. Holes punched through the inside half a dozen bags of empties laying round, piles of toilet paper round the back of the hut.....

There are always those that don't appreciate what they have access to and can't understand that they (if they pay their taxes) end up paying for the damage.

Are those huts easy to get too, 4WD or easy walk. Easily accessible huts seem to get more abuse than those that take effort to get too. Unfortunately this kind of thing is more common these days, and just disrespect for the outdoor environment generally.

Wankers. I hate that sort thing. Great wee hut too shallow bay. But like all the huts on the edge of eastern fiordland lakes, it gets trashed by idiot boaties on the piss.

Yup, dropkicks on the piss. Every now and then I see some young guys carrying in a box of piss for an overnighter, and you just know you don't want to be anywhere near that hut...

Absolute drop kicks!!! Thats the kind of stuff where the perpetrators need to be made to do community service with DOC cleaning up other huts that have been trashed, make them cart the stuff out in packs for 8 hours and see how they feel about that!

Modern society is full of it - complete lack of respect for other people or their surroundings. And yet so fast to jump up and whinge if 'their' rights are impinged in any way.

A mate was in a similar area recently - long drive, hutt at road end.
Met a bunch of young ones who were going to stay in the hutt for a 'party'.

Yes, very easy. Boat to the beach and a short walk, or about a 6km walk on a very easy track from the Rainbow Reach carpark. There are two other huts virtually on the Lake edge as well, Hope Arm and Freeman Burn (North Arm), so no surprise that Freeman Burn got damaged a few years back. I've seen a fair few pissed f*&kwits on that lake.

shit heads. Problem is there's too many of them around with zero respect for others property. Can only hope they get caught out one day in a good southerly gale and find out what hypothermia does.
