Question Does anyone know what these are for?

Hopefully this works and the attachment is attached, I tried to upload the picture but didn't seem to work.

We were on private land this weekend and came across these items, they look like feeders? maybe to poison possums?

The landowner didn't know anything about them and there shouldn't be anyone else on the land?

If there is no picture, I may need some lessons adding a picture

    A form of bait station.
Possums open them to access feed/poison. They keep the contents out of the weather.
    Overkill is still dead.

Yep they are Feratox bait stations. Designed specifically for Feratox encapsulated cyanide pellets for the control of possums and wallabies.

Came to market in the early 2000's I think, back when it was easy to get a cyanide licence. I attended a Feratox field demonstration near Collingwood and there were dead possums all around the stations.

As far as I know they're obsolete now and the proprietary prefeed and toxic pellets no longer available.

I seem to recall the inventor ended up in some legal trouble after making serious threats to NZ government departments.

I believe was caught with a container behind factory set up as a weed growing op - yes feratox stations - we tried it for a no of years but rat interference can be fierce- the little mongrels eat the prefeed of the cyanide capsule and then spit it out onto ground - was good idea but without rat bait operation alongside of it loss to rats was just to much

Thanks everyone for the insight, it's interesting that they shouldn't be on the property as no one else is meant to be on it.

By the looks of them they don't look freshly used.

    Cheers

Probably part of a Regional Council possum control programme. Or something similar.
Landowners don't really have a say in programmes like that. If they try to restrict access it becomes quite messy.
