Thread: Dog friendly hunting spots

Hi all I’m planning going down south from Hamilton for a 5-6 day trip in late January early Feb. I’m keen to take my dog and was planning on going up around lake Tennyson but dogs are only allowed during the day. I’m after either early reds or chamois and don’t mind walking a 15km+ in any suggestions?

I believe dogs are permitted in most of the blocks in Hakatere. Big Hill, Taylor Range, Barossa, etc. and maybe the two thumb/sinclair on the other side? But I’m not entirely sure so double check and call doc. All good country for Cham, Thar, and reds though. Good luck!

Dogs are allowed on St James east of the Waiau river. Lake Tennyson isn’t part of St James from memory.

If dogs are allowed around Tennyson during the day I wouldn’t be to worried at night to be honest. For one thing nights are rather short at the moment and if you’re camping out of the way of the traffic, which you should be if you want to do any good, who are you going to bump into?
