    Dogs in choppers

Hey all, planning my first heli trip to the kawekas and wondering what the flying with dogs situation is?

Will call around the operators to get prices and exact details but just wondering what to expect.

I've seen dogs just in the chopper held by owner, box on the outside and heard of them being in a crate inside taking up 1-2 seats.

    What's your experiences?

Same here flying with Chris from EKH.
Just hold on to collar between the legs. Factor in dog weight to total pax weight.

I’ve had mine in the cab and in a pod. Cab’s better as you can reassure them on their first trip.

Pod on first trip also good as you don't have to reassure them lol

Had Bo in a couple of choppers now, first time just going for a blat round the farm to gps some areas for fert and he didn't seem bothered by the chopper at all just jumped up in the back, looked out the windows for a bit then just lay down and had a rest for the rest of the flight.

Had a Weimaraner that loved them you had to hold her back.
Got all excited and whined and carried on until she got in the chopper.
Used to just hold on to her but she needed a window seat to have a look.

Lol....I remember my viz feeling the engine change, she looked up at the rotor spinning, then to me and then tensed up as we left the ground.....I may have had a wee chuckle

Last time I flew with Helisika my GWP was factored into the total load weight, had to have a collar on, and I just held him between my legs.
He was fine for the flight in (Has been every time) but we had one particularly rough flight out amidst a big snow dump where he had his claws out, tensed and low growled until we landed I felt the same on that one haha

You with them in the back and secured. Classic example of why is a 500 in the Tararuas a few haircuts ago. Dogs in the back and their owner hadn't closed the back door properly. Door flew open and dogs thought they might try skydiving..

    Yea back seat. Hold collar.
    They count towards weight obviously.
Also remember your avian permit if needed. Some pilots won't let you fly without them.
My gsp usually falls asleep on the ride out
