    Doubtful river access

Hi Everyone, im a long time shooter and ive always said id like to get more into actual hunting so have decided to start with the doubtful river area, not looking for any spots or anything but always open for tips... lol.
what i am after is if i can get it is advice as to the initial access, what is the best place to park so my car is still there and in a happy state when i return, is there a swing bridge near by to get over the first river crossing? or just wade it near the boyle doubtful junction and put shoes back on afterwards.

    Thanks for any help.

No swing bridge, unfortunately taking a risk leaving vehicles anywhere now, during the week would be best bet

Dont waste your time chasing every last fps, it doesnt matter in the real world, it wont make a difference, all it will do is cause head aches and frustrations. And dont listen to silly old cunts

Sad what the country is coming to how you can't leave a vehicle anywhere.... Makes one think that the best hunting vehicle is something cheap that you van leave the unlocked with nothing in it

I passed 12 people walking out last friday after a week in. Very busy at the moment. Also a ute was broken into and stolen about two weeks back in the carpack opposite the valley. There are lots of animals in the area but after you've knocked a few over try focus on hinds as there is way too many and everyone just leaves them and shoots any stag they can find. Each to their own ethics but if you cant find a hind in there your not looking during the right time of the day or taking note of wind direction (and the numbers are getting to the point we may have doc noticing soon and doing a S&D so killing hinds is pretty important. I saw 25 deer int the general area on sunday morning alone only two where males (young males), took a hind and a yearling for meat). If your relatively fit PM me and id be happy to take you in to find some deer in the next month as two people, carrying out meat is better than one.

@stuart Park at the Boyle and see if someone can drop you off, cars get done over regularly on the side of the road down here. If I was free I would have offered but I'm flat out at the moment. Also have you checked the forecast as its looking crap possible snow Saturday and strongish winds on Sunday.

Where you working? I'm a builder around town and my wife is working at the library tomorrow.

Yes I think its currently closed at the homestead but not sure. Wife also works at the iSite by the pools, its not a bad place to live down here.

If you end up staying in town instead of going away flick me a PM and might be able to have a chat.

Ditto what @Happy Jack said.Dont park at the ford.A lot of vehicles get knocked off there & also down at Windy point.Park at the Boyle village. The outdoor education centre offer a reasonably $priced shuttle service from there back down to the Doubtful, Windy Point etc.If your wheels get vandalized there, save yourself the cost of the phone call to the Hanmer cop. He,ll just shrug his shoulders & go back to his crossword. This problem has been going on for years in his patch.

Thanks @bluebaiter222, the local cops are both neighbours of mine.

The Boyle is certainly the best place to leave a vehicle.

Was up there a couple of weeks back. No issue with vehicle parked opposite the valley. Plenty of deer seen even though we got about 5 hours of glassing in over 2 days due to weather
