Go up the Horace Walker , true left , steep climb but you cover the ground quick haha , in the scrub on the terraces true right Douglas River . If you are up for
a walk head down to the Shark Tooth Rock , can camp under the rock .
@wekaman hunted a bit up there
Been up there too
Great place
Goes up fast
Goes down fast
Creek has some drop offs

Don't listen to anyone who tells you the "low route" out the Douglas to Cassels flat is an option. As said, the track up from Horace Walker hut to Terraces on true right of Douglas and onwards will open up some country and give you an idea of where to push on to. If Douglas Lake is frozen it makes Harpers Rock Biv a lot easier. If you are flying in/out, suggest you grill the pilot on what has been happening in the area in case you end up picking up shotgun shells like we did.
Cheers for the insight @wekaman, I take it there are animals all round the area, its just a matter of getting to them?
yes flying in so might have a word with Scott haha
Yea James may show you where he has been seeing animals on the trip in. Its a great area with a lot of history that everyone who has spent time there wants to go back to.
A walk up to Red Deer Col (opposite the hut) is worth while but steep. Be damned careful crossing the river.
Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing, and right-doing, there is a field. I will meet you there.

James will give you an update on recent culling. Has had a bit of a shake up with the choppers the last few years. Mint hut but take a backup tent incase and firewood pending on time of year. (we have seen trampers on 2 of 3 trips) nice spot worth the trip in even if you don't bag anything
There were a few Chamois above and around the hut 4 years ago when we were there. Not so sure about the numbers now. Great hut. great spot
Just got back from the 6 day trip. Hut was in great condition. There was a good numbers of tahr, but not outrageous numbers. Saw a few chamois. Managed to get a few winter skins which will hopefully turn out good.
