Dry Hinds and Doe's this year? Southern NI/Wairarapa

Has anyone else noticed a lot of dry Reds' and Fallow this year?

Ive been seeing and have shot a lot of dries this year, particularly Reds'. Im wondering if they slipped (aborted) early because of the extraordinary wet winter?

Not sure why, but there are a lot about. Have just hunted a Wairarapa station and saw maybe 50 hinds and half of them seemed to be dry. I was careful to watch how they were behaving and if they might have a fawn or not.

Ive shot a few the length of the Wairarapa and they have had no udder as I thought - big mature hinds.

Was out hunting fallow 2 werks ago and the ratio of hinds v fawns looked right, all others were more yearlings so no issue that i saw......maybe condition at tupping time...we had a very wet summer with loads of food and in lost cases very fat deer?

Not here Bruce, I watched about 35 fallow a month ago and everyone had a fawn. The reds I've seen in dannevirke have all had fawns as well.
We had the wetest winter here in a long time.

Maybe someone shot all their boyfriends or there was a lot of disruption around their oestrus

Watched a mob of 6 fallow hinds with 5 fawns the other day. Couldn't pick which was a yearling or dry so left them be.

I went back over some pics and I think maybe what Im seeing is well grown 2 and 3 year olds and that the age mix is changing.

A mate I know has plenty of Red hinds with fawns on his station in the Waiarapa. All in good condition. He only shoots Spikers/yearlings this time of year until the fawns have weaned.
