TR this question is sort of like the "how long is a piece of string" question. The rut (stags roaring) is triggered by hinds coming into season (oestrus). Oestrus in maturing hinds is determined by body weight so young hinds and old hinds reach oestrus at different times and that is influenced by feed availability (this year having drought means that feed will be diminished and some young hinds may well not even cycle until they reach two years of age next year). To answer your question more simply the red deer roar is typically from mid March to the mid April but it can and does extend either side dependent upon where you are.
