A large lighting bolt hitting the ground near 300 reindeer can travel thur the ground and zap all animals in the surrounding area without too much trouble. The energy would travel up there legs and fry them all like what happened here. certainty wasnt a case of 300 all getting hit by a lighting strike...just wrong place , wrong time. Lucky theres over 10000 deer in that area so only a small dent in their numbers.

I have been up that way hunting for 4 days. The ground is Swamp over Rock.
So if the lightning struck anywhere near them, then they all go.Same thing has happened to Musk Ox in Greenland before but never over here.

As usual the authorities have fucked up the chance to recover some value from Game Animals and they are all going to be left to rot.Despite Reindyr meat selling for $50 a kilo.
Its cold as a witches tit up there now,the lighting struck on friday and I would still eat them guts in untill next week.

In Uruguay we often got awesome tropical storms as warm air from Brazil came down and met cool air coming off the Atlantic, wasn't unusual for farmers to lose large numbers of animals to lightning strikes. A local was killed while I was there after being struck riding his motorbike also, funnily enough he was an electrician...

Also, when I first arrived there I went out one morning in the dark on my motorbike to get the cows in while a storm was going on, actually saw lightning touching down a few times which I thought was pretty interesting. Got the cows to the cowshed and nobody was there, rang one of the boys and asked what was going on, "(in Spanish) oh, nobody told you? We don't go outside when there's an electrical storm going on, and we especially don't follow a herd of 600 wet cows down a track in the dark as that's basically a magnet for a lightning strike..."

    Point taken.

Had that happen to a client of mine up the Caprivi strip in Namibia.
Just pulled into camp and told them to get there tents up quick smart as there was a big tropical storm coming our way.
This young English guy was mucking around so some one was giving him a hand.
I'd gone to the bar and was sitting having a beer.
Storm hits us with a Big Bang and lots of rain.
Next minute these to come running in asking for the first aid kit and a new tent?
The lighting had hit one of the poles run across the ground and then hit him, he had been just about to bang in a tent peg.
Tent was fobar floor melted out sleeping bag also a gonna and the client.....had a perfect tent peg shape burnt into his palm reminded me of the Nazi out of Indiana Jones other wise he was ok, bloody lucky.
Boss never beloved me till I showed him a photo of the guys hand I'll see if I can find it

    Thunderstorms are epic.
Yeah NSW and Queensland thunderstorms are epic
