As I have shot a heap of deer wearing a blue backpack !!

A fella I hunted with recently made a comment about his blue backpack he got cheap on this forum because the seller thought the color was no good.....

"i don't know what he was worried about, by the time the deer see this pack they are in it "

Movement is the biggest giveaway to deer !!

No incidents in later life,60yr old, but have been shot 4 times ( it fucking hurts too ) and had a deer on my back shot. Blaze whatever wasn’t a thing and wouldn’t have been useful anyway. You can’t avoid dumbf##ks or people who consciously aim at you. I wear blaze/fluoro when required, camo or a combination more often but don’t get obsessive about it. Just remember 8% males (1 in 8) and about 0.4% female population are colour blind so blaze orange won’t help you. Probably a lot more perplexing hunting these days so pays to be weary.

So what conversation are you trying to provoke then?
You start out saying "a fair few people have been shot at lately" then you walk it back saying " no recent shootings"

TBH mate, 7 posts in and you are asking what could be considered trolling questions

Yeah I have heard that too, but at the same time blue might stand out more to humans as not being a deer, at least in low light conditions. Or maybe I should go full camo so both deer and hunter cannot see me : o) .

I agree with that, but can't decide whether it is less likely that I will be shot at because I am harder to see or whether some twit will take a shot at me wearing a blaze jacket just because they see movement. Swings and roundabouts!

I mean no offence, but how is it that you have been shot 4 times?
Be keen to know more about how it happened if you are willing to share…

Just saw spell check error in earlier message. Meant to say "Probably a lot more people hunting these days so pays to be weary" @thatguy. 1: mate walking behind me with .22rf pulled the trigger to see if it was cocked, it was.Hit me in back of right leg.
2: A duck shooter stalking along stopbank swung past my mai-mai as he was following a duck, happened to fire as he covered me. Shot in rh side, not too bad.
3: Recovering geese off frozen tarn, 2x parries came in and landed on ice between me and our shooting position. I heard one mate yell to third person not to shoot as I was out there, too late, bang ! 15 pellets in back of head, a few more in back and one f#cked oilskin jacket. I was a bit pissed off about that. 4: you don't need to know.
Deer shot with a 270 Win. while carrying on my back. Put that down to stupidity/buck fever. Got into a bit of strife with cops when I tracked him down and administered some rough justice, go figure? Lucky to still be able to hunt tho I guess.

Similar to me. Have shot plenty of animals in a blue swandri. Majority in the bush or on flats at less than 50m. Have also shot enough tahr and chamois in open tussock with one on to know that movement is easily the bigger giveaway. Stay still enough and they shouldn't pick up on you.

For instance had two stags walk in to me over summer and neither realised something was up until they crossed my downwind at about 5m in the bush. I was dead still looking at a map at the time and so hadn't been moving when they first came into view

Been shot at (in my direction more like it)once, propably 3 or 4 years ago. Was busy gutting a deer, wearing long sleeve blue flouro. Fella was up at the top of the valley (was close to a road) and decided to shoot down stream at some rocks. I was next to said rocks. He properly shat himself when my mate ran up to him (was about 300m away) and shouted at him haha. Never met the fella, he buggered off before i could get up there with the deer.
If you can't kill it with bullets, dont f*ck with it.

Perhaps really good / Gillie suit camo is the answer then. Not being seen at all or if movement is initially seen the shape and position cant be found again ?

This article has some good pictures of blue vs orange blaze, have to say the orange stands out far better to my eye. He also has some interesting points on what a deer see's versus what it will actually react to.
