Oh boy! do i have a yarn, for you guys, wildlife coming to life,
Years ago, four of us flew in to the kawaka ranges, with kayaks, rods and rifles, My mates on this trip, Dave Ashley and Shane,
Shane has little experience, about day three, i take him hunting, i see a real nice 8pt Sika stag, he cant get a shot, so i shoot it, he mark's position and leads me threw very thick scrub, at sum point he forgets its position, i been climbing round in the trees, for a while. and am pretty ****ed, he elects to go hunt down to the river.
He finds a Sika hind on a flat above the river and shoots it, walking up he, sits on it, for a camera shot, and it starts to come to life, Shane decides to throttle it, said deer is having none of this, and they are wrestling all over the river flat, knife rifle and one boot, all out of reach, finialy the deer drags Shane off a cliff and into the river, said deer is now drowned. Shane finds a way back up the cliff and retrieves boot and knife, forgetting his gun.
Deer is gutted and taken back to camp, he is a hell of a sight, battered and bruised, scrapes and cuts, proud as punch, first deer on his own,
I give up tying to find the stag, and drop down to the Ngaruroro River, coming apon a small clearing, (20m x 50m) right above the river, first though, stags been thrashing the manuka scrub/ground all torn up, I find a big pool of blood on the ground and an old .303 at the far end, look over the side, and its a 20 foot drop, to a pool in the river, Don't make sense to me, i pick up the .303, find a way off the cliff and head down river.
Meeting up with Dave, who is gone up river, to try and find Shane's rifle, Dave told me the throttling deer bit, I took him up to the flat, where it all took place, and we had a smoke and a laugh,
Back at camp, the deer is hung and skinned, we tease Shane about strangling deer,
I guess the final laugh was on us, the blow Flys were getting at the meat, so rather than use fine black pepper, as he was told, he sprayed the meat with 3/4 can Raid fly spray, Yep you guessed it, Myself, Dave and Ashley start feeling sick, after the next days feed of venison, Shane didn't eat much, *****, cause he New, we didn't.
    "Raid kills hunters dead".

tying this has bought back an old memory, and few chuckles.
