    Ever had an animal resurrect?

One of the Forum's, i am on, has a thread running on this, lots funny stories,

    hers one of mine.

I've got a good wildlife coming to life yarn, this time a turkey,
Heading back from a successful deer hunting trip in Te Urewera ranges, New Zealand, same old mates, Ashley and Dave, three of us crammed into the cab of an old WB Holden Ute, coming across a flock of wild turkeys on the side of the road, haul up the ute, Dave and Ash pile out, and gab a turkey each, ring the neck, and threw them under the tourney cover.
hundred Km later, we stop at Wairoa, gas station and I get 50 bucks worth of gas, and 3 cokes and steak and cheese pies, Make it back to the ute, put pies and coke on the dash, just as Dave finishes pumping gas,
He says to me, "i am going to check on my turkey" and un does the tourney cover budgie cords, on one corner.
The turkey, seeing the light, explodes out of the gap, steps right on Daves face and launches him self to freedom, across the forecourt of the garage, and straight threw the open sliding door into the store and attempts to land on the Wrigley's chewing gum stand, this off course tips over and collapses,
The turkey in full panic is fly around crashing into things, people screaming and running out, a woman falls out the door, skirt up, while ass, several more trip and fall getting out the door,
I look at Dave, and say "get in the ute lets go,"
We are still laughing about it 150km later, when we drop Ashley off in Napier.
This trip, (there were a couple other memorable moments) comes up, every time we get together.

    Put up your yarns.

Oh boy! do i have a yarn, for you guys, wildlife coming to life,
Years ago, four of us flew in to the kawaka ranges, with kayaks, rods and rifles, My mates on this trip, Dave Ashley and Shane,
Shane has little experience, about day three, i take him hunting, i see a real nice 8pt Sika stag, he cant get a shot, so i shoot it, he mark's position and leads me threw very thick scrub, at sum point he forgets its position, i been climbing round in the trees, for a while. and am pretty ****ed, he elects to go hunt down to the river.
He finds a Sika hind on a flat above the river and shoots it, walking up he, sits on it, for a camera shot, and it starts to come to life, Shane decides to throttle it, said deer is having none of this, and they are wrestling all over the river flat, knife rifle and one boot, all out of reach, finialy the deer drags Shane off a cliff and into the river, said deer is now drowned. Shane finds a way back up the cliff and retrieves boot and knife, forgetting his gun.
Deer is gutted and taken back to camp, he is a hell of a sight, battered and bruised, scrapes and cuts, proud as punch, first deer on his own,
I give up tying to find the stag, and drop down to the Ngaruroro River, coming apon a small clearing, (20m x 50m) right above the river, first though, stags been thrashing the manuka scrub/ground all torn up, I find a big pool of blood on the ground and an old .303 at the far end, look over the side, and its a 20 foot drop, to a pool in the river, Don't make sense to me, i pick up the .303, find a way off the cliff and head down river.
Meeting up with Dave, who is gone up river, to try and find Shane's rifle, Dave told me the throttling deer bit, I took him up to the flat, where it all took place, and we had a smoke and a laugh,
Back at camp, the deer is hung and skinned, we tease Shane about strangling deer,
I guess the final laugh was on us, the blow Flys were getting at the meat, so rather than use fine black pepper, as he was told, he sprayed the meat with 3/4 can Raid fly spray, Yep you guessed it, Myself, Dave and Ashley start feeling sick, after the next days feed of venison, Shane didn't eat much, *****, cause he New, we didn't.
    "Raid kills hunters dead".

tying this has bought back an old memory, and few chuckles.

This ones not mine, but is sure worthy of retelling.
Fellow who's handle is "Walking Buffalo."

I was asked by an Elder to shoot a Buffalo for a ceremony.
This was on the Tsuut'ina Nation.
The buffalo are fenced in a one section enclosure, half treed in willows and apsen, half open pasture.

I was so excited to kill a buffalo, a first for me and something I dreamed of doing since childhood.
Four of us including the Elder walked into the enclosure, upon seeing us the herd of buffalo walk into the trees.
Deep in the willows, a bull pops out into an opening 15 yards away.
The Elder asks for my rifle, my heart sinks as I pass it to him, thinking that my chance to kill a buffalo was just taken away.
The Elder shoots and the buffalo runs off.
It was a side head shot, and it looked like the shot hit the nose.

The buffalo ran back to the open pasture and bedded down, facing us head up and alert.
When we got to 75 yards from the buffalo, the Elder told me to shoot it in the head.
I aim for just above the eyes and just off center.
At the shot the buffalo rolled over dead.

Walking up the the Buffalo, I'm told to cut its throat.
With one hand holding the left horn, my other hand pushed a knife fully into its neck.
At first there was no blood, so I moved the knife inside, blood now gushed out from cutting the jugular.

The bull rose to its feet!
We stood nose to nose, eyes locked, with me holding a horn and my knife in its neck.
I felt remarkably calm, the bull's eyes were powerful and peaceful.
We stood like this for a long time.
Then the bull fell with me still holding on.

When the skinning and quartering was done, I caped out the skull.
    There were no bullet holes.
The Elder's shot went through the cartilage of the nose.
My shot hit right where I aimed, and simply deflected of the skull leaving a small pink skid mark, not even the hide was broken.
I took the buffalo's spirit while walking with him, my knife in his throat.

A few years later I quietly walked into a room where several guys and girls were gathered, two of which witnessed this kill.
One of the guys was telling a story, bragging to the girls about killing a buffalo with just a knife.
When this guy saw me, he shut up and the other guy burst out laughing, telling the the girls that it was me who killed the buffalo with a knife.
    This story can't be stolen.

Was out 4wding and had the 22 to get any possums that showed up. Got a few and plucking them as we went, called it quits for the night, on the drive home there comes a bloody loud racket from the canopy of the ute...... opened the canopy to discover one of the possums was playing dead and woke up to find he was missing his coat.....

Yeh similar story as 223nut, Back in the mid 70's we were out shooting possums with my brother in law , his wife and mine. We were in his Holden station wagon and the girls were in the back seat . The shooting was going well and the back was filling up nicely when all of a sudden there was a scream from the girls. Turning around we seen a possum with his head half shot up sitting on the seat between the two girls. I suppose we were lucky it didn't crawl up onto one of there heads ..... that might have ended badly for us.

oh shit..just remembered the worst one....shotguned a wallaby out otiao gorge way late one night, back when spotlighting was still a done thing......got home to Timaru some 2 hours later, parked in driveway and turned the escort off....car moved, looked at bro in law....not him,he looking at me....sure enough movement from boot....
carefully opened boot and grabbed tail of now very lively wallaby and found something to dong it good n properly....upon skinning it appears the buckshot had graised across skull knocking it out.... we learnt our lesson big time after that and made sure to dong properly anything before it went on truck deck.

Havent had one come back to life, but I had a young goat do a good zombie impression standing there bleating at me after 3 rounds of 22mag through the head - entry and exit confirmed, didn't miss! But did miss the tiny little brain inside its skull. It was stunned enough to let me walk up to it with a knife to finish it off though.

This story is the other way around: An animal helped resurrect a vehicle!

Its in the book "The adventures of Fred Bear", but I was also told the story by some old timers when I lived in Moçambique.

Anywho, (early 1960's) hunting party arrive in Pemba (Moçambique) and head off towards deepest darkest Niassa. In those days it was Land Rover or walk. 3 days in low box later, the driver rips open the engine sump on a sharp rock, and loses all the engine oil. Hmmm.
Never mind say the local guide, we'll just go get some oil. But we need a hunter to come with us??
Off they wander with a 5 gallon kero can and a half 44 gal drum cut lengthways, used for cooking stuff in.
Guide gets them onto an elephant, and gets the hunter to shoot it. The camp helpers spend the next day and a half cutting all the elephant fat off and rendering it down onto oil. They head back to the main party (who have taken sump off, jammed a piece of bark in the hole, then hammered the rip back closed)
When its nice and hot (early afternoon) they pour the oil into the engine, start her up and head back to civilisation for permanent repairs. Each night they had to drain all the elephant oil out of the engine, as it would set solid during the night. Heat it back up the next day, pour it in and away they would go!

Don't suppose it'd work on a 2020 Ford Ranger, but in an old low tech 2.5L petrol engined Landy it was fine

Story from an Ozzie mate supposedley about someone he knew who knew someone who was outback with some mates when they bowl a big red kangaroo which came across the road. Poor old roo but they get some funny pics cap and shades on it etc then a jacket put on it. Then the roo wakes up and takes off. Ah dammit there goes your jacket mate. Its worse than that the ute keys are in the jacket pocket!

Was on patrol in Woodhill quite a few years back when I came across a hunter about 9am on the edge of block 5 looking slightly the worse for wear. Seems he had shot a nice fallow buck just off Sino rd in block 5, walked up to the dead deer and decided to take pics. He draped his rifle and pack on its antlers, arranged the deer and equipment to look 'artistic' and stepped back to take the pic. While he is looking through the viewfinder the buck stands up and heads for the bush. He managed to grab hold of his pack but couldnt free it and fell over. He followed the trail of gear that fell out of the pack picking up the gear till he lost the trail. Somewhere in Block 5 is a pre 64model 70 in 270 with 2 rounds still in the mag. ( I went back in with him and searched till dark but had no luck apart from finding his knife and first aid kit[)

Not really a resurrection but coming back down the hill from a nite shoot for rabbits over central and I drew the short straw and was on back of the Ute while the other 3 were in the front with the heater going. They slowed down to go though a gate that had some turkeys roosting on it for the nite so grabbed 1 by the feet and twirled it around and tossed it in the passenger side window.Never seen so much screaming feathers and flapping as the truck was evacuated....
