On the road again! After last weeks aborted attempt are back on the road! Sighted our rifles on the farm and banged a few rabbits over in Taupo! Venision back straps and eggs for dinner, washed with a few beers and a nice red. Shortly to bed sand then a leisurely drive down the island to Wanganui! Bit of luck some fresh venison and home on Tuesday.
Good skills old fellah.

Nice one @Happy just arrive in Fonganui
Likewise. Happy hunting fellas.
Three on board, Taihape for lunch, all good, home for dinner!
I'll pick up my portion from the Pub (my Local)
Headed off to Taupo Sunday, mowed lawns and cut the edges at the Bach, then off down the road to sight rifles and shoot a few rabbitsAttachment 59523 the .22 hornet was a bit of fun, ended up with 4 and a stray magpie.
Back to the Bach for a feed of venison and eggs for dinner with a few beers and nice bottle of red wine, slept well!
Up early and off on a leisurely drive down the centre of the island to Bulls, quick look around Taihape and a stop at Mangaweka, Main Street is like straight from the Wild West!Attachment 59524 Attachment 59525.
A quick look at the "antique" shop in Hunterville and the one on the right hand corner of the tee section at Bulls, where my mate picked up a well priced, old Mitchell surf casting reel. On to Wanganui, quick look at Wilsons, lunch in town, a parking ticket and we are on the road to Dan and Mary's. Great rally car drive to their place, but with caution on the blind corners after a near miss with a quarry truck!
Arrived settled in and tossed a coin as to who was having the evening shoot and who was the sucker for the early morning one! I lost!
Mate headed out and I sat round reading, drinking beer and preparing dinner. Got a chance to take some photos

Mate came back on dark and was pretty happy with his two hinds

Both shot with his Brno .22 Hornet, which did the job well.
Dinner served with more beer and stout, I could do without the stout!

Can't say we don't eat healthy
Up at 5:30am and out the door, up the track and up the "mountain" all I need at that hour, my mate did the flats and told Dan I needed some exercise!
Got a bit of height and sidled round from gut to gut glassing as we went. We dropped down onto a bulldozed track and third time lucky!
Dan walks round the corner but missed the young stag about 100 metres above us, I managed to haul him back without being noticed and he then decided it was to good to shoot for meat! But sitting down about 20 metres to the right was a another stag, just its head showing, I got a shot lined up at the back of the head and it disappeared before I could fire, bugger. The other stag was munching on unconcerned, so we sat still for a few mins and the smaller one stood up, facing away from us, I put a shot with the 223 75grain just behind the front leg, and through the top of the heart.
