Nice bull. What calibre rifle did you use and where was your shot placement? Thanks.

I think he used a 300WM with a head shot at 80M.

My guess based on the size of the magazine housing is 3006, or a belted magnum like 300 win mag or 7 rem mag. It would be nice however if it was a medium bore like a 9.3 x62 or 375 h&h or even bigger unlikely as it seems not that anyone needs to prove the need for big game rifles in nz.
That looks like its was fun. That big fellow would have taken some knocking over if it wasn't hit right.
I farmed Friesian bulls as part of a sheep and cattle operation. Up to 1,300 of them. Bull beef is exported to the States for the main purpose of being used as grinder beef in hamburgers. Contrary to what has been stated here it is used so it can be blended with the fatty trimmings from their own prime beef domestic market - so there is plenty of fat in hamburger meat. Because the bull beef is dark coloured the fat that is blended is not so apparent.
My mate and I used a 45/70 at 25m away. They certainly required good shot placement but head shot was very effective.
I thought bull was mixed with steer/cow as it helped the burger/mince stick together.

Thar is correct. It is to do with the excessive fat content of the feed lot cattle produced in the states. The lean bull beef makes the ideal mix
Thats a 300 win mag Charlie carries, He let me put a few rounds through it last year.
Way softer to shoot than I expected, very nice trigger, (may be a bit light if wearing gloves down south), the longer barrel and that silencer work well to make it very controllable.
Softer to shoot than my 358 win with an 18" barrel.
Bulls hunts are fully booked now guys thanks for the support.

Hi Guys
Yes the rifle is a 300WM, and shot placement was head, see attachment for bullet 208g Eld-m, we got the bullet on otherside just beneath the exit hide.
Cheers
Thanks @25 /08 IMP but l am lucky to have my hands full on the farm doing the same .We run cattle & sheep on our farm ,so eat all our own home butchered meat, that l do Over-Landed in the paddock ,chewing a mouthful of grass is the last thing our beef & lamb for the plate knows.
I am also lucky enough to have a couple of Deer hunting properties that have me hunting under a hour from our farm gate, one with good numbers of Fallow,we usually eat Fallow for our Venison dishes & the rest is used for our Salami , Sausage & smoked goods, which l have a couple of German mates who are right into it & for the last couple of years l have been well caught up in the bug/enjoyment of making it,so much l have changed the plans on the new Man Cave /Workshop & are having them drawn up to incorporate a smoking/dry goods room, to go along with the farms old chiller/ cold room .
Beast l Over-Landed & butchered a couple of weeks ago to donate to local Flood/storm damage victims & White Fallow Stag from around the same time ,the property owner asked me to take as they had unsuccessfully hunted it the last couple of years & wanted it gone before it brought unwanted attention.
Donated Flood/storm victims beast a couple of weeks ago ,all done on the farm just me & the missus.
Cunning White Fallow Stag that provided a good 3 day hunt
Yumbo Fallow Smoked Back straps from the other night
So as l say anyone taking up the hunt will be getting some good freezer fillers, great meals & a good deal on a unusual Kiwi hunting experience .

@25 /08 IMP Us Hobbits don't call it Gods Own Country for nothing, meant to say before ,pass on regards to your mate for making sensible use of what others would class as a costly pain in the ass & giving what is now a unique opportunity to responsible hunters . Another good Kiwi Bastard
