Fallow in the Waikato - Rut timing?

Hey guys, I've been visiting a block with quite a few deer about and have narrowed down the location of the main buck and have found his three active rut pads. Unfortunately the wind is a nightmare in the gully he is in and it constantly swirls so I've been having a dog of a time sneaking in on him.

I have not yet heard any croaking and I've been there weekly for the last month. I'm seeing deer around most times including does.

Anyone got any reports on the rut timing in the Waikato or if they're going off in your area?

That's comforting, I've been surprised by the lack of action as I know there's at least three bucks in the immediate area but haven't heard a peep. Hopefully next weekend they'll have a bit of a go.

First time I’ve actively gone after them in the rut. The croak doesn’t travel anywhere near the distance of a red roar, so had to be close to hear it. That might just be me though.

Wind is a real prick at the moment plus bush has dried out quickly with it. Too deaf to hear them unless it's a calm frosty morning.

The buggers, I wonder what's kept them so quiet in my neck of the woods.
Fallow can be so sneaky, frustrating little buggers.

    Hi Guys,
I have Hunted the Te Miro (NE from Cambridge) in the DOC Ballot a few years back. Will go back one day.

charliehorse, Was not aware of any Fallow deer out from Huntly, without asking for spot X are they private land or public?

Many years back 1990's I hunted some of the Beef farms west of the coal mines for Possums, Shot hundreds and a few goats but we were under instructions not to shoot any deer.
Guess it makes sense as I know Awhuti has Fallow and they seem to like that coastal sand forest

Afew things have conspired to make it a hit and miss rut this year in the area. Heaps of feed makes me suspect the does have cycled early which is backed up by observations of plenty of does without Bucks. An early full moon and its exceedingly warm with a warm rainy week right at the peak of the rut. There has been sporadic Craoking but what im seeing is a general lack of interest in the rut pads and random action that starts up then stops again almost immediately.
