    Favourite doc land

Out of interest what is everyone's favourite doc land to hunt on out of the kaimais, kaimanawas, piropiro, Te urewera or any other doc lands between Auckland to around central north island? Wanna go in a couple weeks but still trying to decide where... Thanks in advance

I'm having a few days exploring the northern end of the Kaimai's this week. I'll let you know how things are there.

Te Urewera.......but its no longer DOC land.

Pick a spot away from the well established tracks and stalk the creek beds early and late in the day.

At this time of year, the Pureora (piropiro) or southern Kaimais will be the kindest on your body.
Possibly also the Urewera but I don't know that area.
Public land in the West Waikato (Pirongia, Leitches clearing) and smaller reserves have few deer and will also be frustrating.
Some 1080 is planned but they haven't started yet. Factsheets
There's no easy hunting on tops, slips or riverbeds for a few months now so it's nice bush you want.
I would also do some homework looking for areas no one has named on the open net
All the best, suss out some good areas for the spring.

The Kaimai's around Lindemanns track were pretty empty today. Saw some sign about 30 minutes in but it had someones footprint in it . Had a bush mish around where I saw it but nothing to see. No sign anywhere else even when I went off track for a bit. Even the bird life was eerily quiet.

Te Uruwera is no longer DoC but the area where that borders the Whirinaki up the back of Minginui is a go if you want a real challenge in a play ground where the deer have a better chance of getting away from you unscathed. If you want certainty of success then hire a private investigator and have him secretly shadow 7mmsaum on one of his frequent outings and take notes to pass on to you.

My old mans "Easy Meat" spot.

Only a couple of clicks from Snee road as the crow flies.

    Cheers
