    Finally a nice day

What a great day for a Saturday since I cant remember when. Went to the farm today, was tossing up weather to take one of the 22 hornets or the 223 i got a couple of months ago. i was planning on doing a walk about and shooting a few magpies. Something I like doing from time to time, it was a bit windy so decided on the 223 as it hasn't shot an animal yet and I like each of my rifles to have at least one under the belt. Its a mossberg mvp. Haven't been out there for a while in the day time, I usually shoot possums there. Parked the car at the yards got my gear ready and off I went, Its was a real workout wet and boggy as hell, red bands were constantly heavy with all the clay and mud stuck to them. Passed some big slips on the way and sussed out which paddocks the stock were in, Finally arriving at one of the spots where you can sit and look over a fair bit of the farm. It was nice to be out there sitting on the side of the hill watching the hawks flying around the tuis the wood pigeons and just no people and sun. Didn't seem to any magpies about but spotted 4 goats that ended up turning into a mob of 12+, they were a bit to far away for what I'm comfortable with 460m so I sat and just watched them wondering if they would come closer as I was across a deep shitty slippy gorge from them. Sat and watched for a while then lay on my back in the sun and closed my eyes just listening to the sounds and could hear the goats bleating. It was great and after a while I could hear closer bleating, cool they must be coming closer I thought. So before I went to sleep I thought I better roll over and have a look I could still see the mob over where they were before but could still hear closer bleating, then I saw them there were 4 across the other side closer than the big mob, I ranged them at 173m, That's more a distance I'm comfortable with so just watched them for a while, one of them wasn't sure what I was so was keeping an eye on me. After a while they relaxed and carried on eating in the sun. Lined up on one and sent a round off and saw it drop on the spot the rifle is suppressed and it didn't seem to bother the other 3 too much they just looked around looked at their mate lying there and carried on eating 2 of them had moved behind some bushes but I could still see them the 3rd one was still out in the open and standing facing me, loaded another round and sent it another goat dropped where it stood. It was starting to get late by then and it was going to be a slippery sloppy shitty walk back to the car but I love just being out there but it was time to go. Made it home in time for a hot shower and went out to dinner with wifey. What a good day

Best part of getting out by ones self in the hills with a rifle, is the solitude, especially on a good day. Made better by getting something

That belt of pines looks familiar.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

Its the best 223 ive owned. Once a feeding problem was sorted its a keeper. Ive owned a fair few but they just do nothing for me. This one is gayed up with fluted barrel and bolt I was looking for a 222 but hard to come buy and this popped up cheap as, i suspect because of the feeding problem.
