Finally something not full of shit on Stuff

    https://i.stuff.co.nz/national/10319...s-final-secret

I can't wait to be hunting these magnificent animals in their home range in August.

I plan to take special note of the smell.
People I know who say they have been close to Moose in Fiordland say it is very unique and different to anything encountered in NZ

    Refreshing change from Stuff.

Id like to believe in Ken but with the amount of people/hunters/fishers in Fland in these days of the whirly bird and charter boats etc I just think it inconceivable that a population small enough to go un noticed despite being looked for relentlessly could actually survive.
Only my opinion and I hope I am proved wrong.
"Hunting and fishing" fucking over licenced firearms owners since ages ago.

This is why the Moose have gone quiet.

Man from lost tribe is a mate of mine and @Uplandstalker

I think there were definitely Moose there up till the mid 90's

Have heard first hand about a Moose seen a fair bit north in the late 90's
Also know some people that have seen them and kept it pretty quiet.
I hope they're still there but not looking likely.

I hope there are moose down there, but I also hope it stays unconfirmed if there are. With a population so small, I am sure DOC would insist on using is as proof they can eradicate a species of pest.......even if there is evidence they are not an invasive problem....

The way that they break branches when they feed is very distinctive, too

How come they'd just disappear after the 90's?

Was gonna say. What is docs official policy on moose should they still be around? Be a shame to find the majestic beasts only for them to be shot out.

A330-can you discreetly book one on a tin budgie coming back to NZ -book the fare up to winston peters OK.
seriously -im with ken T I do think theres moose in fiordland but its a close kept secret .

Holy hell. Read the comments at the bottom of the article.
Some humans are a special kind of stupid.
99% have no buisness commenting as they would never venture more than 5 mins away from their favorite cafe.

I have met and conversed with Ken T a few times.
He struck me as the type who would never waste time on fruitless tasks.
The bloke is very smart and passionate.
If he was convinced they were there... I am happy to believe him.
If I ever found myself down them ways and seen one I am now sure, I wouldn't ever go public with it.

Obviosuly not written by them but would be a story they have purchased. Its clear, well written, accurate and is not pushing its own agenda. Stuff couldn't do that if they tried....

Heaps of that sort of country here on the coast but I don't know if they like it.

One of my duck ponds is right where the first Moose were released in NZ.
Haven't seen one in it yet

I read one of his books years ago about the moose. I'd love to have them down there.
