    Firearms Licence Renewal

Just got off the phone to my local firearms office enquiring as to when I might see my new licence the sum total is as follows make sure you have plenty of patience with getting your firearms licence renewal, I started my process in Nov 2015, vetted between Xmas & New Year approved and sent to Wgtn Jan 13 2016 for printing. They are two months behind so I won't see my new licence until March The online Gun City TV3 "The Story" has created an overload of work for Wgtn they have had to increase staff by 50% to cope with the extra work

Mine's due to expire in 2019, maybe I should apply now. Funnily enough they rang me a couple of weeks ago asking to come and check my security. Not bad since I put in my change of address just under 3 years ago.

Yep, mine interview was done Late November and vetting completed 12 dec, still haven't seen mine yet, passport office managed to get a passport done, between the 5th Jan and in my hands 12 Jan, standard service.
I just don't see how it can take so long, but was told 4-6 weeks,

Talked to the Tauranga Arms Office last week about the same issue, I was all vetted and approved prior to Dec, but due to what you said above @Bonecrusher i am still a week or two away from receiving my new license.

Meanwhile, my old license expired a month ago... so I can't buy ammo, purchase firearms, etc. until I get my new one... not happy about that.

At least the lady on the phone was super apologetic and polite, I know its not her fault.

Recently got my endorsements approved, so therefore I am licenced, but do not have my card. My AO is happy to tell anyone or any dealer that I have the endorsements I do have, until my card arrives especially considering they're so far behind in Wellington.

Try ask your AO, but every AO has a different view on the situation.

The police shouldn't be doing firearms licensing. They don't want to be doing it and it shows. It should be handed over to IA asap

I was told to ring Murray the guy that vetted me, from the gun shop, present my old licence and he would approve it? Get them to ring Paul for approval, add to his workload

In September last year, on his 16th birthday, my son qualified for his drivers licence and his firearms licence.
I'd paid, he'd down the safety course and submitted the paperwork and been vetted weeks before his 16th birthday.
Both, in my opinion, are licences to kill.

His drivers licence arrived 3 working days after qualifying at 4pm - to a rural address.
Essentially 1 working day to print and post.
His FAL arrived about 10 weeks later. Essentially same printed card with different details.

I'd suggest the Police contract the printing to NZTA who seem to be able to do a much quicker job.
