The point of my comment was: if the licences come from the same place how come mine came within days & everyone elses takes many many weeks.
If it CAN be done in days, why the unnecessary delay for the average Joe Blow?????
Can someone with a finger in the po-lice pie answer that?????

I will email the Minister if I haven't received it this week I can go hunting no problem but can't buy ammo or another firearm ....

Bugger it I've emailed the Minister very politely inquiring "Minister are you aware of the current problems with staff resourcing in Wellington" it might action a few questions to the right people and get the desired result.

Foot Note: I've got an M2 that I want to pick up and bust some clays prior at an eye opener prior to duck shooting

Here's a thought: If anyone out there knows an MP on a relatively personal basis ( opposition one would be best). Explain the variance in the issue of renewals for Dealers ( an annual event) and the inordinate time that it is taking for everyone else and ask the MP to ask " A question in Parliament" Not only will it place the predicament on the public record, the bullet (sorry!!) that is fired will bounce all the way from the Minister's desk, via the Commissioner's desk, to the licencing cops at "Fort Fumble in Wellywood ( I liked that one!!) and eventually down to the Arms Officers who won't like being picked on & the blame will eventually end up right where it deserves to be!!!!! How about THAT for a thought????? 20 or 30 MP's getting polite requests from some constituents, might do the trick?????

    WADDA YA REKON?????????

Response I got from the Ministers Office

    Dear Mr Bonecrusher

I am writing on behalf of Hon Judith Collins, Minister of Police, who has asked me to acknowledge your email, received in this office on 8 March 2016, concerning your firearms licence renewal.

I must point out that politicians cannot instruct Police in operational matters including how and when it deploys its staff and resources. This is a long standing convention that was enshrined in law with the passing of the Policing Act 2008. It ensures that law enforcement and investigation by the Police remain free of any political influence or interference.

Your correspondence and views have been noted by the Minister. I have also forwarded your concerns to the Commissioner of Police for consideration.

Thank you for taking the time to write to the Minister of Police.

    Yours sincerely

    Blair

Cool. What's the point of having a Minister of Police then?
