With Christmas and the new year over I decided a hunt was in order my fav spot is a no go at the mo so thought of plan B but then after talking to my friend the wind was no good so plan C it was , At 7.30 pm I grabbed the day bag made sure some mutton cloth was in there , gave the knife a sharpen ,22-250 & ammo , torch and away I went to hunt some public land upon arrival I was surprised to find no other vehicles at the car park , after a 30 minute bush bash I came upto some clearings almost immediately spotting an animal across the gully to far away for the 250 so carried on to the top of the hill , the wind was not blowing in the direction I was hoping but I figured id come this far so I mayswell carry onto my little vantage point though most of the better country was likely not going to be much good as the gusty wind was blowing in that direction , on reaching my spot id noted some fresh wallow mud from a pig but a lack of deer sign that said feed was abundant so animals could be anywhere , parking up i started glassing half an hour latter I spotted a spiker feeding on a small clearing on the next face over I did contemplate heading over but decided against it as he was on the move and I didn't want to end up pushing through bush and scrub at midnight so I sat tight enjoying the evening the gusty wind had dropped off nicely , a short time latter I heard some rustling below me then some crashing I thought I could make out 3 animals getting closer and closer they were in a small band of wast high scrub now only 20 meters away pigs for sure I could hear them chomping away , grass getting chewed and what sounded like tusks getting slopped from side to side , still closer they came I could see the bushes moving I readied my self for a shot almost cringing at having to carry a large boar home...and just like that a hinds head popped up 10 paces away with bulging eyes and flared nostrils pointed directly at me ! x hairs sitting on her throat I decided she was no yearling and likely had a fawn so I froze 5 seconds latter she spun around and stopped back in the scrub , knowing there were more animals and they couldn't smell me I didn't move and bingo another head popped up , unfortunately for this one he had 2 small bumps ontop of his head , at the shot he was cartwheeled backwards dead before he hit the ground .
someone told me recently corned front shoulder is good so I took them as well to give it a try.
Happy New Year everyone and the best of luck for 2019 .
