First Blood AR 1 Deer nil

Qucik trip to Wanganui for three of us. Left Fri 5.00pm .Arrived at hut 11.35 pm pitch black and fell into the beds.
Early start and big walk then The midget gets a longish shot away 350 mtrs and we,re on the board.
Me turns round afetr wed collected out gear to go sort it and theres a 2 yr old looking at me.
Day pack on just standing there and it bolts. Up with the rifle and 6 bangs later Im thinking Im in the shit here slow down
think about it relax bang .It drops like a stone and the boys were impressed cos it was fair goin for it..
So the new gun shot better than the user there for sure.

Coupla of 200 mtr goats as well so all happy.

Midgets Cousin (awesome butcher does all our deer etc) came along this trip and used Midgets 300 Win mag
You dont survive that shit up close ....

You may be right R93 but I thought the hair looked too coarse and too red on the first one. More in the look of a red.

Both fallow. Top is "common" color phase tail strip and just visible in that pic is the black surround on the bum.
Menil look very similar to commons but lack the dorsil stripe down the tail and surround to the bum.Also have a very prominent line of spots like a "plimsol line" on a boat.
Bottom one looks melanistic but could be a trick of low light and camera confused by the blaze?

Right both times top one desirable for breeding bottom common most places would not want on their property mates block so he doesn't worry either way . Plenty about just have to walk about lots up hill and down dale

VC I see reds and fallow every day from out the kitchen window. I would have sworn on a stack of bibles that the top one was a red. Anyway, you are right about the need to get out more. That is going to be my New Year's resolution.

Someone once said to me If you cant shoot it out the window its not worth shooting. Ha ha . Not sure if they meant the ute window or the kitchen window though.

Then you could just pop out Rushy and pick it up... It is funny identifying Fallow. Where we were there were menil, melanistic and we saw one leucistic (White). Been a few people release the odd good buck in the area we were told to improve their shooting experience on their own properties but of course fences mean nothing to these guys.

Saw lots of deer long distances away and pretty flighty this trip. One glimpse they re gone wind or no wind...

Happy, I took a shot with the 270 from my garage once. My ears are still ringing from that. I will never ever squeeze a trigger from inside again

:D lesson learned the hard way.
When I was younger (15) had a bolt bomb go off in the vise with the rollers down. Just gave it a tweake and kaboompha :wtfsmilie:

They're called suppressors why would anyone not have one these days eludes me Done it both ways IMHO I would not shoot without one and own blimmin 10 of them now...
