first Cham/s first time on tops over Christmas period.

got into the Alps , spent 7 days over there, seen about 14 chamois, killed a couple.

was a bit of an adventure but thats part of the territory id assume.

Also at 12:40am one night The Hut Rumbled quite Full on for a few Seconds--- Certainly a earth shudder of Sorts- Anyone else ever Felt the Earth tremour while out in the Alps?
i was expecting to see a big Slip near the hut the following morning once i finally got to sleep--- No other words to describe it but a Shunt of the earth / earth quake thing!!! was almost as if someone rode into the hut on an atv in 1st gear from 5-10m ...... Werid as F and i didnt sleep much that night !

then alot of rain followed and i thought for sure rocks would start landing beside the hut :D


Also note- Definatly seen Dog prints in the Snow on the Tops in the National Park- will get someone to try edit the photo a bit to bring out the prints more clear, fairly hard to capture on white stuff.


Got to bring home a nice little momento in form of skull an horn aswell :D

Yes I had a huge quake 7 years ago way up the hokitika valley.
But nearly fell off its foundations
Didn't sleep much after that because I was worried the christchurch had been pounded again
When I got out and looked at the on line quakes I found that it was a 5.5 and i would have been the closest person to it !!!
Remember that's what's making those mountains

thats interesting! i did a quick google an it revealed nothing close to where i was on that day/week.... after shock of one perhaps?

You are dead right, the way some of these Rocks are up there you can only imagine they were indeed pushed from the earth!!!! an how long it has been happening is just mind blowing.

i learned alot in the one trip!

i guess one of those bastard Keas might of flew into the side of the hut ha haaa

Not much Ryan, i'd left it over night before i recovered it an after stalkin in on those other ones for a few hours it was into the morning by then, quite a few blowys on it so wouldnt of been too much chop- quite warm that following day until night when the weather come in.
keen to tke some straps out of some tahr this weekend though

Shame about the heat aye. Hear of quite a few "hunters" that consider chamois as a fancy coathook and nothing more, they have meat inside them just like a deer though and the skins are beautiful

yeh someone told me that with tahr and chams, one taste great an one shocking, since then though a few have said the cham eats alright..
