    First gun

    Hows it going guys?

I've just started getting back into Hunting since I've recently left school and am bored shitless until i find a job.

I dont have a budget for my first gun, since i want it to be reliable.
I do a lot of Farm land hunting and a little bit of Bush.

I shoot mainly Reds or Fallow or the odd pig.

I'm needing help choosing the right .Cal, Brand, model and the right size scope.

I hope you guys can help.

    Cheers
    Dylan

Yeah thats what i had in mind. There is a 7mm-08 in town.

For $999 i could get a 7mm-08, 3-9-40 scope, Gun Bag and a box of ammo.

Don't get that shitty no-name scope they try and flog with their combo deals. They are a waste of time.

That sounds sexy Toby. Fairly light on the body but still enough thrust to show you a good time! They say it's NZ most popular caliber. Welcome Dylan and hot barrels!

Haha waiting to see how long it took for someone to say tikka t3 7mm08 that seems to be the quintessential nz gun.
Nothing wrong with it but if you wanna be different and have something that'll hit harder I'd go 300wsm and the few extra hundred dollars for A sako a7 is worth it. They aren't just a dear tikka in my book. Agree with spud attack font get a real cheapo scope. One that is not bad and cheap is a redfield so is look at them. For a little more you can't go wrong with leupold

Buy the rifle you like the look and feel of, you are not going to go wrong with any of the big names, stay away from their budget lines like the rem 770 or ruger american.
rem700/7, win mod 70, tikka t3, sako, ruger mod 77, howa, weatherby vanguard, cz, and plenty more will all stand you in good stead.

Was gonna suggest the redfield, or have a look online at the Nikon Monarch range, really good bang for your buck
