Hi All I am looking at purchasing my first gun and scope. Need to stop using my friends. I was thinking a Tikka but unsure of Scope and calibre ?
Any input would be great. Mainly for deer hunting. Cheers John

.308 7/08 .270 will all do the job and ammo is readily available in many price ranges.
The two biggest selling guns for me are the tikka t3 lite and the remmington 700sps. The tikka has a magazine the Rem has a hinged floor plate instead some other differences but thats the main one.
Best thing is to go to your local shop and put some guns up to your shoulder and see what feels best to YOU as fit and feel mean a lot.
Scope wise the more you can spend normally the better . I am a big fan of the bushnall elite's .A 3 x 9 x40 retails for @500 and is a really nice scope.
Why not but what you where borrowing from your mate? must have done the job till now?
I was using a friends Tikka 308. I am looking at spending around $2000 total. Thanks for that Clint. What scope would you get for around the $800 ?
Zeiss conquests for around that money . Leupold vx 2's as well. .
Good advice from clint My 2 c is dont spend less than 400 on a scope, you will regret it
"Hunting and fishing" fucking over licenced firearms owners since ages ago.
308Win One chambering to rule them all.
For $2000 i would be looking around for a cheap browning x bolt and import a scope for it, something like a Burris E1.
That might go slightly over your $2000 budget but you never know. Shouldn't be to hard to find a good x bolt on Tardme.
at our local they have ss howa suppressed and scoped with gun bag for $1200.I shot it at the range yesterday and very impressed with the trigger and houge stock and the suppressor was as good as any i have seen and heard.
Been a tikka ans sako lover a hard pill to swallow recommending a howa but money talks!
I would ditch the scope and buy a better quality one, leupy or burris and get a notch leg harris bipod and you are still under 2k
My favorite sentences i like to hear are - I suppose so. and Send It!
After using the new VX2 3-9 for a few months and few deer under all conditions, I wouldn't bother with a VX3 again. Not worth the price difference for ordinary every day stuff.
