Thread: First hunt in 20 years

Had an early start for my first hunting trin in nearly 20 years, and headed off to Pureora Forest Park, Northern blocks.

On the way in passed another guy on the way out - they had overnighted in there and he said that there were another two parties further up the track and his mates were also heading in this morning. I was feeling it might be a busy block.

Plenty of very old sign at the start but nothing fresh-ish, then found my first fresh tracks.




Somewhere along the way I think I heard s stomp from maybe 15-20m away, but could not see anything after waiting a good few minutes. this was in this area, real thick cover



Just up the trail there was this sign, not real fresh, but fresher than any other poop I'd seen, An ID on the poop? Seemed smaller than most of the other stuff.



Then came across several trees like this





And fresh pee



All in all a good morning out, even if I didn't see any deer (did see two goats on the drive in)
