My theory is the better spring and summer(we are talking stuff growing not perving at the beach) IE regular rain and warm temps light winds the earlier the hinds cycle and the earlier the stags roar.
Late winter and cold spring dry early summer equals late roar
Early warm wet spring and summer equals early roar.
Only my experience but has held true the last 25 odd years.
