    Question First red

I am trying to get onto my first red deer and are unsure of were to go
Looking at the forum the kaimais seem to be for very experienced hunters from the harsh terrain.
Would the pureoras be a good place to go to try get my first red deer? Not trying to steal anyone's spots but does the pureoras in general have reasonably high numbers?
Also what areas have been 1080 recently.
Are there doc tracks in the pureoras and is it good to base hunts off them etc..?

I shot my first red in the Pureora's, mind you that was before 1080. Great place. Bog Inn hut was a good place to visit. Not sure why you want an area which has "reasonably high numbers"...surely you only want to shoot one. As a novice it doesn't pay to shoot too many as it will do your back in.
Which is worse, ignorance or apathy...I don't know and don't care.

Welcome to the forum Htown. @mucko will give you the low down on 1080 in Pureora as he is a local but my understanding is that it is being bombed as we speak.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!

Pureora Forest is a big block of land...surely they don't bomb it all.

The only way to become experienced in the Kaimai's is to go there...you live in Morrinsville so should be up there at every opportunity...if you are young and fit, then the terrain wont be a problem.

H Town id go for a wander in the Kaimais being in Morrinsville. Get some k's in on the tracks a get the lay of the land. Then slowly build up your bush bashing confidence of track and look for sign.

Living Morrinsville and Kaimais out your window is a no brainer.
I shot a hind in the Kaimais the first time I went there. Bit disappointing as I was only hunting for near on 40min so didn't get to see much of the land.
