Thread: First time south island public land heli drop

Howdy fellas,

A mate and I are heading down south for the first time to hunt for a couple red stags that hopefully are a bit bigger than our ruahine scrappers, we're going all out getting a helicopter to drop us off somewhere but that's where we're running into a bit of trouble. A lot of the operators we've contacted have said that deer numbers are not great where they are based due to WARO, and times running out to organise an operator (we are arriving in Picton 1st Feb). Was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for an area/operator we could go with that would give us a good chance at seeing a decent number of deer? We're happy to go anywhere in the south island and are hoping to be in for 4-5 nights.

As a side note I thought it was really good that a lot of the operators we've contacted have been upfront about the fact that our target species would be difficult to hunt in their area, would be easy to take the cash and run!

Have you talked with Malcom Prouting at Mesopotamia?
